Updated 24 September 2026. This article originally introduced The Final Fare as our free demo. Flat 33 is now our dedicated free case; the guide below has been rewritten for the new investigation.

What is Flat 33?

Kieran Daley has been found dead at Merebank House in the fictional town of Calderwick. You have access to the case file and a simple objective: establish who caused his death.

There are three suspects, but suspicion alone will not solve the case. You need to compare what people say with what the records show. An interview might send you back to a piece of footage. A detail in a message might make you search the building records. The answer comes from putting those connections together.

We have kept the investigation compact. Allow roughly 10–12 minutes, or take longer if you want to explore. There is no countdown, and no previous detective-game experience is needed.

A free detective game you can actually investigate

The experience takes place inside a fictional police computer system. You choose which files to open, pin useful evidence, compare records and keep your own notes as your theory develops.

The eight case records give you several different ways to investigate:

  • Police interview extracts. Hear the suspects give their accounts, with written transcripts available to read alongside the recordings.
  • CCTV footage. Review five clips, check the timestamps and replay movements that need a closer look.
  • Phone messages. Examine conversations presented as messages on a phone, and consider how they fit with the other evidence.
  • Council records. Search a fictional Calderwick Council housing register containing incidents and repair logs, including records for other buildings.
  • Scene photographs and examination findings. Look at the physical evidence and read a forensic report presented as a case document.

You can explore the register beyond the first result or return to an interview after finding something new. That freedom to follow a lead is part of what we want you to experience. When you have a theory, submit your conclusion. If you get stuck, the built-in hints can give you a nudge.

Why we made a short, complete case

It is difficult to know whether an online mystery is your kind of game from a cover image alone. We wanted you to be able to try the investigation system, hear an interview and make a few discoveries for yourself.

Flat 33 gives you that experience without asking you to set aside a whole evening. It has its own mystery and ending, so you can finish with an answer. You do not need to buy another case to discover the solution.

Our full unsolved case files offer longer investigations with more evidence to explore. Flat 33 is a small taste of the way those games work: examine the records, question an account and decide what the evidence supports.

Questions before you start

Is Flat 33 really free?
Yes. Access to the complete Flat 33 investigation is free, including its conclusion. An email address is needed for guest access; a purchase is not.

Do I need to download or print anything?
No. The game runs in your browser. You can play on a computer, tablet or phone, although a larger screen gives you more room to compare evidence. Interview transcripts are available if you cannot use sound.

Can we play together?
Yes. Play solo, or share a screen with a partner or friends and talk through your theories. You do not need to act out characters or organise a murder mystery party.

Is this a real crime?
No. Flat 33 is a fictional detective game. It includes references to death and assault, with some blood visible in scene imagery, so bear that in mind when choosing who to play with.
