Make the screen work for everyone

An investigation you can actually share.

For a few friends gathered at home, start with one comfortable viewing position. A laptop works when everyone can read it; a larger display can help if people are spread around the room. Check text readability before settling into the case.

Take turns controlling the evidence viewer. Read important passages aloud and give everyone a chance to explain a theory. The aim is a shared conversation, not one person silently reading while everyone else watches.

This guide describes informal shared-screen play. It does not promise separate player logins, synchronised evidence boards or a corporate event licence. If you need multiple teams or a workplace booking, use the team-building enquiry route so the setup can be agreed.

Give every theory a hearing

Put the evidence where everyone can see it.

The comparison tool shown here in Love, Aisle & Murder brings two photographs together. It gives your group a common reference point when discussing what an image does, or does not, establish. Features differ between cases.

A useful house rule is to ask “which record supports that?” before agreeing on a suspect. Let somebody offer a competing explanation. If you are divided, revisit the evidence rather than settle it with a quick vote.

Choose the case for the group you have.

For a first shared investigation, consider Stonewood. For a hotel mystery with more accounts to discuss, explore Elite Grand. The Waters Edge offers a harder trail for a group ready to take its time.

Before you choose

Your questions, answered.

What group size is this guide for?

Think of a few people who can comfortably read and discuss one screen. There is no fixed cast to fill. If people cannot follow the evidence, use a larger display or consider a different event arrangement.

Can friends join remotely?

A video call and screen sharing can make a shared discussion possible, subject to your chosen call software and the case access terms. This does not create a separate multiplayer system or individual player access.

Do we need to finish in one sitting?

Check the individual investigation’s duration and access information. Allow time for discussion and breaks rather than treating the estimated playing time as a strict finish time.

Can we book several teams for work?

That is a different arrangement from friends sharing a screen. Contact Cold Case Inc through the team-building page with your group size and event format.

Good theories are even better when you can argue them through with friends. Explore Unsolved Case Files from Cold Case Inc, or play the complete short Flat 33 case free before choosing a longer investigation.
