Why I Built Cold Case Inc – And Why It’s Not Just Another Mystery Game
When I first built Cold Case Inc, it wasn’t about jumping on a trend or chasing the true crime wave.
It was about creating something I wish existed.
Something real. Something challenging. Something where you’d feel the weight of every decision, every inconsistency in a statement, every piece of evidence that didn’t quite add up.
Cold Case Inc was never supposed to be just another murder mystery game. It was built to feel authentic — like you were dropped into the middle of an actual investigation, given the raw files, and left to figure it out. No hints. No hand-holding. Just you, your instincts, and your logic.
So, who’s behind all this?
That’d be me — Billy Cross. A web designer from the UK who just happened to have a head full of puzzles, a long-standing love for logic-driven shows like Murder She Wrote, Columbo, and more recently, Death in Paradise. I’ve never called myself a “true crime fanatic,” but I’ve always been drawn to the structure of a case. The story behind the story. The cracks in the version someone wants you to believe.
Maybe it says something about my personality — that I like to figure things out, that I like to challenge myself — or maybe I just enjoy proving people wrong. Either way, Cold Case Inc became the perfect outlet.
Every case is personal
Not in a soppy way — but in the sense that I’ve poured myself into every single file. I’ve created every puzzle, every red herring, every clue with intention. I’ve even voiced some of the characters, roped in family members, and found ways to stretch the tiniest budget into an experience that feels bigger than it should be.
I’ve lost count of the hours spent tweaking timelines, writing fake police reports, editing evidence photos, and building the systems to keep it all online and running smoothly.
And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Why I’m putting my face to this
Because Cold Case Inc isn’t a faceless product. It’s a platform, but it’s also a craft — something I’ve quietly built over the last few years to give players a different kind of mystery. One that respects your intelligence. One that challenges you the way a real investigation would.
So going forward, I want you to know exactly who’s behind this. When you play one of our cases, you’re not just playing a game — you’re stepping into something I’ve designed, tested, and obsessed over until it felt just right.
This isn’t mass-produced.
It’s personal.
Thanks for playing.
